A Warm January get-away
There is good news, and there is more good news.
First the first good news.
Remember the lodge membership meeting a couple years ago, where you were informed of the dire financial condition of your lodge? The debt was great; the worry was heavy. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks to you, the members, and some dedicated officers and other volunteers, great strides have been made in membership and financial stability. However, there is always something to be fixed or replaced.
We call it normal maintenance, such as any household will have.
The carpet throughout the lodge is old, has many miles of dirty shoes and shows wear. It needs to be replaced. The lodge officers are proposing an offer you can't refuse, anyway, we hope so.

Help Mooseheart School win $500,000!!!
A Few Mouse Clicks Mean $500,000 to Mooseheart School ... or Not.

If, by just clicking a computer mouse a few times over five to ten minutes, you could send a HALF-MILLION DOLLARS to help Mooseheart's kids, you'd do it -- wouldn't you?

We sure hope so.

Thanks to Kohl's department stores, that's the opportunity we Moose members have!

Between now and Friday evening, September 3, by just "voting" for Mooseheart School as your "favorite school" on the "Kohl's Cares" page on Facebook, we Moose members can get that $500,000 from Kohl's Cares Foundation for Mooseheart School!

That's $500,000 we then WON'T need to ask from the men and women of the Moose to help operate Mooseheart's school this year!

If you have a Facebook account (easy to set up), if you're 13 or older, and you're a U.S. resident -- just go to http://apps.facebook.com/KohlsCares, follow the directions to vote the maximum allowed FIVE (5) times for Mooseheart School -- and that's all there is to it!

Please ask your spouse, your family and all your friends to do the same!

If Mooseheart School finishes among the top 20 schools in nationwide voting, we'll receive a Kohl's Cares check, payable to Mooseheart School, in the amount of $500,000!

It costs you $0 -- just a few minutes of your time! What an easy way to fulfill our membership obligation to "support Mooseheart with my energy and substance"!

PLEASE don't let this opportunity pass us by! Your Mooseheart students need you to vote, NOW!

Warm fraternal regards,
William B. Airey (Director General) and Scott Hart (Executive Director)

Volunteers are invaluable assets to our lodge and the weekly operations. Without their dedication to continue to accomplish the daily tasks of the lodge it would cease to exist. We have volunteers in the office, in the kitchen, and at our regular meetings. All of our officers are volunteering their time to plan activities and develop ideas into successful new events, about 9 hours a week of volunteerism. Our two office volunteers enter the financial data into the computer and draw the checks to pay our weekly bills, about 30 hours per week of volunteerism. Our volunteer cooks diligently spend time preparing your meals for your dining pleasure, about 26 hours a week of volunteerism. Our front kitchen volunteers plating the food and washing the dishes, for our Friday night dinners and our Saturday chicken buffet, about 10 hours a week of volunteerism. All in all approximately 75 hours a week are given to your lodge from our volunteers. At today’s minimum wage that is a savings to your lodge of over $635 per week. We are wearing our volunteers down because of the lack of others coming forward to lighten the load. As we recall from the words in the ritual when we were enrolled in the fraternity, “A burden to one is borne lightly by many”. The next time you see one of our volunteers, thank them for what they are doing and will continue to do for our lodge. Please consider joining the ranks of our volunteers to give those dedicated to volunteering a little break. We can particularly use help on Wednesday and Friday nights, but whatever time you can volunteer we will find a task that needs to be done. Without new blood in our volunteer ranks we will have to cut back on the nights we are offering food at modest prices to our members. Don’t be surprised in our November newsletter if you don’t see those cutbacks in place.
Your attendance at the weekly functions is very vital to the financial solvency of your lodge. Of the $60 annual dues that you pay less than half of that comes back to the lodge. With 400 members in good standing the monies that come back from your dues is just over $11,000. These funds don’t even cover the annual cost of our utilities. There are still licenses, real estate taxes, repairs, replacements, and other services that are included in our annual budgeted expenses. Remember we are here to support our kids at Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven. Come to the lodge and participate in the weekly activities that are planned for you and your family. Check the calendar and keep it in a high viewing area so you don’t miss out and your lodge happenings.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT !!!!!!!
